Sophie Williams is a journalist at BBC News

Sophie covers global affairs for the BBC’s website and radio outlets. She has reported from Israel, Ukraine, Poland and Washington, covering stories including the Israel-Gaza war, the invasion of Ukraine and the Coronavirus pandemic.

Her work has appeared on BBC Breakfast television, Radio 4’s World Tonight, From Our Own Correspondent and BBC World Service radio. Her features for the BBC’s website have had millions of views. Sophie’s journalism on Ukraine has twice been shortlisted for an international sports press award.

Sophie has a journalism degree from City University London and spent a semester studying journalism and government and politics of Hong Kong at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).

She has also studied Mandarin at Xi’an International Studies University and London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Sophie speaks Mandarin to a working proficiency level.
